Rashes are widespread, medically important, and can substantially affect quality of life on a daily basis as well as over the long term. Therefore, instruction on diverse causes of rashes is a must-have in any medical literacy curriculum. Every person in a STEM or healthcare career addressing medical or health issues will need to grapple with problems concerning rashes.
A basic yet broad and holistic understanding of rashes, are an important part of health education and improving health literacy to promote health outcomes. Knowledge of these issues helps people to recognize the diversity of rashes, understand what may be happening with their bodies or those around them, increase empathy, and advocate for a healthy environment.
Standards:
This book encourages learners to match pictures that are the same, and practice recognizing and printing upper and lower case letters (CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.K.1.A), and use frequently occurring nouns (CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.K.1.B).
How to use these resources:
Students will be introduced to medical terminology, language, and concepts of the topics listed below. These resources may be used with other media as part of a multi-modal educational experience. In person or virtual instruction may be delivered before, during, or after the learners work through the activity sheets.
